Who We (I) Are (Am)

Hi, I’m Katelyn. The Armarie is a new jewelry brand I’ve started to raise awareness for reproductive rights. The Armarie was an idea born out of frustration. Or anger, really, over the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. On that day, I knew I had to do something, but I wasn't sure what that looked like. A year later, here we are.

As a woman, I feel a strong sense of responsibility to act on this. I’ve never had an abortion. I don’t want to ever have one. In fact, I’d love to have kids in the future. But without a shred of doubt, I believe that decision is a woman’s choice.

The right (or lack thereof) to bodily autonomy is inextricably linked to gender equality. When you take away someone's right to make decisions about their own body, you severely limit their agency and autonomy. I don’t want my kids to live in a world in which women's social and economic opportunities are more limited than they are now. And a ban on abortion would absolutely do that.

What I'm doing feels like a very vulnerable venture. It’s scary to plant your foot so firmly in one category of a hotly contested debate. I’m not doing this to make millions or gain any level of recognition. I am doing this because I have to do something. And I hope you'll join me.
